Oklahoma Telugu Association/Sangham
(OTA/OTS) is an organization that was
formed in 1990 to bring the families and people of Telugu origin living
in
Oklahoma together. OTA/OTS was formed to serve the various needs of
telugu
people and provide a platform for their diverse activities such as
cultural,
educational, literary, social, and charitable events among its members
and the
local communities.
OTA/OTS until now in 2005, has always been a
voluntary organization that was
initiated in a humble manner by a small group of families in the
Oklahoma City
Metro area and has been steadily growing then. With a small current
strength,
the numbers anticipated to increase rapidly in the coming years. We
strive to
preserve, maintain, and perpetuate the cultural heritage of the people
of Telugu
origin in Oklahoma.
To assist and propagate cultural,
educational, social, economic, and
community affairs of the people of Telugu origin in Oklahoma.
Traditionally, each year OTA/OTS
celebrated/conducted a few main selected
events only such as Ugadi(Telugu New Year's Day) and Sankranthi, thus
even
though being a relatively small group, maintained a superior quality
throughout.
This has benefited the community in several
ways such as enhancing
cohesiveness and unity, preserving the cultural heritage, enabling all
specially
the burgeoning children and youth maintain their Telugu and Indian
identity.
The OTA/OTS organization is committed to
work hard and united, grow by leaps
and bounds, do its very best in serving its goals and set an ideal
example for
others to follow. The OTA/OTS ninaadam "Samaikhya Telugu Bharatheeya
Velugu"
speaks for itself.
